Bagamoyo Sugar Manufacturing unit at the moment produces 80,000 tonnes of sugar yearly. With deliberate expansions, this output is anticipated to extend to 100,000 tonnes.
The growth won’t solely increase manufacturing but additionally create 1,500 further jobs, contributing to the native financial system.
Tanzania’s sugar consumption stands at 800,000 tonnes per yr, and the federal government goals to satisfy this demand domestically by 2027.
Minister Jafo expressed optimism that the nation will obtain sugar self-sufficiency throughout the subsequent few years, in the end eliminating the necessity for imports and positioning Tanzania to export surplus sugar to different markets.
In July, the Tanzania Sugar Producers Affiliation (TSPA) introduced that native sugar producers had initiated growth initiatives geared toward assembly nationwide demand by the tip of the 2024-25 fiscal yr.
Native manufacturing reached 460,200 tonnes in 2023, up from about 300,000 tonnes in 2015, because of collaboration between the corporations and the federal government to guard native funding and curb irregular sugar imports.
